Piaget developed a unique set of tests early in his clinical career that revealed a link between children's awareness, anxiety, and happiness. According to Piaget, adults do not want children to develop the critical consciousness of sorrow, the misery of disappointment, or the horror of uncertainty. Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler both agreed with Piaget's point of view. Piaget contrasted "critical consciousness," which is the cornerstone of contemporary critical psychology, with the notions that make up "Happiness" and "Anxiety," which start in childhood, have no real significance, and date back to classical Greece.
